This publication summarizes and compares the key sustainability-related reporting requirements issued by the SEC and the state of California in the United States, the European Union via the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), and the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) within the IFRS Foundation. It is intended to help U.S.-based entities that might have to report under more than one regulatory framework as well as entities that were preparing to adopt the SEC’s climate disclosure rule or the CSRD and want to understand how to leverage such preparation when applying other sustainability requirements (e.g., those issued by the state of California or the ISSB).

This issue highlights accounting considerations for airlines, SAF developers, and partners related to purchases and sales of (1) SAF and (2) SAF emission reduction reporting rights. In addition, it discusses efforts to develop a SAF certificate framework (e.g., by the World Economic Forum) and a centralized registry for claiming the environmental benefits of SAF (e.g., by the Sustainable Aviation Buyers Alliance, the Energy Web Foundation, and the Rocky Mountain Institute).
